Dog Training
I have trained dogs for many years though I did not consider training as a factor in running U-Dog until I was asked several times to help with behavior obstacles
I was sad to see that so many trainers and public were stuck on cookies and tools. Dogs just don't communicate like this.
The industry has moved towards trends, emotional selling and encouraging people to be their dog's best friend. It's romantic but seems to only serve the humans needs not the dogs.
Dogs communicate with mostly body language and audible tones.
Dogs are naturally high energy and need a grounding leader. I teach that 'sit', 'stay', 'come' are social gestures that should not be paid for and are easily communicated with simple principles of body language and boundaries.
Conscious touching can create desired energy levels and boundaries at home can dictate hierarchy. Movement is natural and imperative to dictate leadership and create balance. Dogs are predators and naturally follow and watch what moves. Fitness is a key component in both handling and training dogs.

Background information on trainer, Robert Kerr
- Born into a home with 12 Samoyed pups and placed with them for play on a regular basis. I was in their box at 2 months old and they were newly born. I think about it and wonder if it was a good thing but it obviously rubbed off on me. LOL
- My mother became blind by an eye disease as I developed into my teens. She trained in San Rafeal, California with Guide Dogs For The Blind. I lived with Arla and my mother during my teen years.
- Owned and raised hybrid wolves. This is something I now struggle with but it was an amazing learning experience and I did raise them in a mountain environment. Bobi, their mother was one of my greatest teachers.
- Work on film set with wolves and trainers
- Shiatsu massage for dogs
- Occupational First Aid level III - have attended first aid courses for dogs. It's not much different than for people.

When starting a training program with us, we start in your home with a 1.5 hour consultation focused on evaluating the relationship first and methodology second. To invite you to a class full of dogs and people is simply irrational and obviously paints everyone with the same brush. Your situation is unique and we will only treat you as such. We can also offer video if desired or necessary.
