The DOGS

Sunni is a Tri Color Border Collie. She was born on the Sunshine Coast and adopted by Robert Kerr while working on an underwater log salvage project. By a few weeks, Sunni was already running the litter. From being first out of the box, chasing logging trucks with the local farm dogs and keeping up with the toughest little farm kids I’ve ever met; She was an obvious handful. Though not what most would consider ‘polished’, Sunni is trained well for walking off leash in any environment, biking in city streets and off road, a back country skiing expert and knows to ‘stay off the road’, regardless of desires, until the command is given. She is great with hand signals and can work at distances. She’s a role model house pet with performance and attitude.

Jack is a wonder of the world. He has been to pretty much every shelter in B.C. and was adopted to Robert Kerr by the Duncan SPCA. At first, Jack came for rehab and socializing. He was tough to train and did not present well from the cage and was pretty much a hazard to anyone who attempted to adopt him.
From the moment Robert met ‘Super Doo’ he was taken by the indefinable energy and charisma Jack had. It took nearly a month of flat out running with the crew at U-Dog before Jack wanted to communicate and from that point on, Rob and Jack have been a tight team.

Though Jack is not a dog that will ever be a reliable off leash dog in a street environment, he is a capable athlete for high speed downhill mountain biking, river swimming and back country skiing.
Barry was another Duncan SPCA import. Barry had been at the shelter for quite a while and was one of the most handsome Arctic breeds I’ve ever seen. He was a bit of a bully but a great teacher of etiquette with an amazing ability at basic obedience commands. He was raised by an experienced trainer who had a career raising police dogs. He had left Barry with his family upon passing. Barry became a bit of a handful to his neighborhood when teamed up with a Shepard of a similar background. No sooner did they both get in trouble when the neighbor left the barn door open where they bred guinea pigs.
Robert took Barry for a practice run with one of his U-Dog groups and found Barry to be an exceptional creature. He filled out the papers after his first hike. Barry is capable of just about anything. He excels with horses, bikes, skis, agility and even likes to swim.

Ashley was sent to U-Dog from the Duncan SPCA. She is a brilliant creature that had been tough to match with other dogs at the shelter. Due to crowding, she was not easy to keep with other dogs and from Duncan SPCA’s past experience with U-Dog, they asked me to foster her. Ashley has been with U-Dog now for a few months.

She is highly intelligent, obedient and very affectionate. Cheryl has had Ashley for the past few months and is enjoying her immensely, building a strong relationship with a dominant dog by setting rules, boundaries and guidelines starting in the home. She is an important part of the crew helping facilitate communication between human leader and the other dogs. The "loan" of Ashley to Cheryl may be a permanent thing as she settles into the home and hearts of the Hughes family.
Clancy is Cheryl's dog and was adopted from the SPCA in Prince George during a brief move there. The previous owners' loss was definitely Cheryl's gain. A Beagle-Shepherd cross, Clancy has come a long way from the timid, unconfident dog she was at the start. She is in her element coming on the off leash hikes and has learned to pace herself so that she can come every day. Once in awhile she can't help herself and goes too hard for a middle age gal, then opting for the couch and a long nap when I head out the next morning. Between the hikes and the off leash runs on Dallas Road when she goes to visit Grandma and Grandpa she is one happy dog. Cheryl and Clancy are both fitter and healthier since they met Rob and his crew!
